This book is a commentary whose purpose is to show that Las Vegas is a community with many diverse interests; not just the strip and gambling. These interests and activities form the heart and soul of Las Vegas. “We don’t all live in hotels, we don’t all gamble, and no, we aren’t all showgirls/strippers/ dealers.
Off The Strip
Off the Strip and in the suburbs, Vegas is home to many locals whose lives have little or nothing to do with the city’s “darker” side. The 2.25 million residents take advantage of an abundance of community, recreational, educational, and cultural activities available in the city and surrounding areas. These activities include parks, splash pads, the Discovery Children’s Museum, the Springs Preserve, the Nevada State Museum, and the Smith Center.
Just Out Of Town
Outdoor enthusiasts love the plethora of nearby recreational opportunities at Red Rock Canyon Conservation Area, Mount Charleston, Lake Mead and the Valley of Fire.” * Also, for those who like to spend time at the Malls, we have plenty of them too. In the rapidly growing area of sports, Las Vegas is home to the Raiders Football Team; the University of Nevada, Las Vegas football/basketball teams, the Oakland A’s triple-A affiliate Las Vegas Aviators; the National Hockey League expansion team Golden Knights, and the Las Vegas Lights FC soccer team. For car racing enthusiasts, Las Vegas also has the Las
Vegas Motor Speedway, located at 7000 N. Las Vegas Blvd.
Artistically Speaking
There is also a nurturing, burgeoning artist and tech community, which is growing at a fast pace. The number of artists has expanded. Studio and office space are at a premium. Warehouses are being converted into individual art & yoga studios and offices.
Education
The University of Nevada, Las Vegas is designated as an R1 Tier 1 Research University by the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education.
It is also home to the top-ranked William Harrah College of Hotel Administration, and one of the Top 100 accredited law schools, William S. Boyd School of Law (ranked 59 out of the nation’s top law schools)**. The UNLV School of Medicine was established on July
17, 2017.
This book is just a sampling of what the community of Las Vegas is all about.
